Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), now operating as the Punjab Forensic Science Authority under the PFSA Act 2025, is a government forensic organization working under Punjab's Home Department. It provides scientific forensic examination and evidence-analysis services to support law enforcement agencies, prosecution, courts and other public-sector institutions. The organization was established in 2007 and has developed specialized forensic disciplines for the scientific examination of evidence.
The PFSA Faisalabad facility is located on Service Road in Madina Town, Faisalabad. A dedicated collection center was inaugurated in Faisalabad in 2022, allowing forensic specimens and crime-related evidence to be submitted locally for analysis and enabling forensic reports to be made available through the center.
PFSA is different from a conventional medical diagnostic laboratory. Its primary purpose is forensic examination of evidence connected with investigations and legal proceedings. Its scientific disciplines include DNA and serology, crime and death scene investigation, computer forensics, forensic photography, audio-video analysis, firearms and toolmarks, latent fingerprints, narcotics, histopathology, polygraph examination, questioned documents, toxicology and trace chemistry.
The agency examines physical and biological evidence using specialized scientific procedures. Its work can assist investigators in identifying individuals, establishing links between evidence and persons or locations, determining the nature of substances, examining documents and signatures, analyzing digital evidence and interpreting evidence recovered from crime scenes.
PFSA laboratories have also been included in Pakistan National Accreditation Council documentation. The documented accreditation scope covers areas including firearms and toolmarks, questioned documents, latent fingerprints, DNA and serology, toxicology and narcotics testing.
The Faisalabad center therefore serves an important regional role by providing a local point for the submission and handling of forensic evidence. It should be categorized on a healthcare or business directory as a Government Forensic Science Agency / Forensic Laboratory, rather than as a general pathology or clinical diagnostic laboratory.

PFSA provides crime and death scene investigation services. Forensic teams examine crime scenes, document relevant findings, collect evidence and help preserve the evidentiary value of material recovered during an investigation.
DNA and serology services involve the forensic examination of biological evidence. Samples may be analyzed for DNA profiling and other serological findings to assist in establishing identity or associations between individuals and evidence.
Forensic photography documents crime scenes, physical evidence, injuries, objects and other relevant findings in a systematic manner. Photographic documentation helps preserve visual evidence for investigation and legal proceedings.
Audio-video analysis involves the forensic examination of digital or recorded audio and video material. Such analysis can assist investigators in evaluating recordings and extracting relevant evidentiary information.
Computer forensic services involve the scientific examination of digital evidence obtained from computers and related electronic systems. Digital forensic analysis can assist investigations involving electronically stored information.
The Latent Fingerprints discipline examines fingerprint evidence recovered from objects and crime scenes. Fingerprint examination can help compare recovered impressions with known fingerprints for identification purposes.
Firearms and toolmarks examination includes scientific analysis of firearms, ammunition and marks produced by weapons or tools. PFSA's documented accreditation scope includes comparison examination of cartridge cases and bullets, firearm functionality testing, serial-number restoration and gunshot-residue or distance-determination examinations.
Questioned-document examination is used to investigate documents whose authenticity or origin is disputed. The documented PFSA scope includes examination of handwriting and signatures in Urdu and English, as well as examination of alterations, obliterations, erasures and inks.
Forensic toxicology involves the scientific examination of biological or other evidence for drugs, poisons, toxic substances and related compounds. Toxicological findings can support criminal investigations and medico-legal proceedings.
The Narcotics discipline examines suspected controlled substances and drug-related evidence. Laboratory analysis helps determine the nature and characteristics of substances submitted for forensic examination. PFSA's accredited scope includes narcotics testing.
Forensic histopathology involves microscopic examination of tissue specimens in appropriate medico-legal cases. It can contribute to the investigation of injury, disease and causes or circumstances associated with death.
Polygraph services are included among PFSA's forensic disciplines. Polygraph examinations use specialized physiological recording techniques as part of investigative processes where legally and procedurally appropriate.
Trace chemistry involves the forensic examination of small or trace quantities of materials that may have evidentiary value. Scientific analysis can help determine the composition or possible association of trace materials.
The Faisalabad collection center provides a local facility for submission of forensic specimens and crime-related evidence for analysis. The center was specifically established to facilitate local submission of specimens and access to forensic reports.
PFSA prepares scientific forensic reports based on examinations performed by its relevant forensic disciplines. These reports can support investigations, prosecution and judicial proceedings.
Physical, biological, chemical, digital and documentary evidence can be examined through the agency's specialized forensic disciplines. The exact examination performed depends on the type of evidence submitted and the requirements of the investigating or authorized agency.
PFSA is a forensic science organization, not a public walk-in medical laboratory. Forensic evidence is generally submitted through authorized investigative, law-enforcement or other relevant channels. The availability and procedure for submitting a particular specimen at the Faisalabad center should be confirmed directly with PFSA.
